View From Tallest Building In Nanning And Photo From Three Sisters Bay Near Qinzhou.

[Page 4 Nanning]

Picture shows view from top of tallest building in Nanning. Nanning is one of the many places in China which are changing very rapidly. One of the tower blocks is said to be the tallest in the city, so up we went. At the first observation level there was a café with tables at the side of the tower windows, and there we had drinks whilst taking in the views of the city. Then by a second lift we went to the roof top of the tower, with no windows to mar the views, but with a fence topped with barbed wire, to prevent any ''strange'' antics, such as climbing up or climbing down! The spectacular views from this vantage point were not marred by any sign of pollution, nor by mist or fog, so we were luckier on this venture than we were up the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai!

It was Xu Jian who first acted as our 'keeper' when we first visited the city in 1990, and now he has his own business dealing with non-ferrous metals; for example, copper. Our destination was the 'Three Sister Bay' near Qinzhou, a journey of about two hours through some beautiful scenery. The bay is part of the hunting zone of the Chinese White Dolphins, although we did not have the chance of seeing any. At the end of a pier jutting out into the bay, could be seen stone models of three dolphins, as if leaping out of the sea. There are said to be three stones which are also part of a legend associated with the Bay. They represent three fairies waiting for their husbands to return from a fishing session, after a tremendous storm caused by an angry god.

Friends Have Lunch At Three Sisters Bay Near Qinzhou; Young Children Play Near Parents

Photo shows friends having lunch under canopy on beach of Three Sisters Bay, near Qinzhou. When we arrived, it was hot and sunny and we had our lunch on the sandy beach, but protected from the sun by overhead colourful canopies. All the dishes were of sea foods in one form or another, lobster, prawns, small fish, etc., cooked and presented in different ways. From our table we could see all the fishing boats moored or beached on the sand, and perhaps the fish we ate was part of the catch earlier in the day!.

Photo shows three children playing on cycle-trailer, near beach of Three Sisiters Bay.After our lunch we walked along the shaded side of the beach, and nearby, three women were busy making fishing nets, by hand, with very fine thread. Under their watchful eyes three young children were playing on a trailer attached to a bike. We jokingly asked if we could take the young children home with us. One of the women said we could take the young girl but not the two boys!

In the photo, the young girl has the most hair, and appeared to be looking after the two younger boys. Whether they were related or not is unknown, but the girl was quite happy chatting to Michael. It goes without saying that had any attempt been made to take the girl away, then we would have been in big, big, trouble !
