Apartment In Baiyun Hotel With Internet Connection, Overlooks Construction of Metro Station.
Our hotel in Guangzhou was the Baiyun Hotel and from our room window we could see what propress had been made on the Metro Station under construction, near the hotel. We were told that it was due for completion in this year, 2009, so that will be something new to try on our next visit.
We had stayed at the Baiyun Hotel before, and I always told my friends
that being in the hotel was like being 'home from home'! The service and food
were first class, and the staff were always friendly, helpful, and efficient.
On this visit, GM Ms Hujingping was away on business, but she told Teresa(Sales Director) to take care of us and we were given the services of her driver with car, and Teresa's assistant Raymond was always
available to give us all the help we needed.
The first room we were given at the hotel did not have a computer with internet connection and when we asked for this to be dealt with, we were promptly moved to a room at a higher level. The apartment had a large bedroom with two double beds, a large screen television, and an adjacent bathroom. The living area was furnished with a desk complete with telephone, and computer with internet connection; together with dining table and chairs, sofa, and television set.
When Raymond came to see whether we had settled in to our new room, he asked whether there was anything else he could do for us. I asked him to get us two tickets for a flight to the planet Mars, for which we are still waiting!
School Football Pitch Amidst Tower Blocks In Guangzhou, and Two Friends In Hotel Room.
Like many cities in China the cityscape is being transformed with the building of many tower blocks, dwarfing any existing buildings in the vicinity. It was a surprise therefore to look through a window at the rear of the Baiyun Hotel, and see below a football pitch, in what appeared to be school grounds. On some days we saw a football match in progress and even a goal or two being scored. The school we could see from the window of Liu and Kate's apartment in Beijing, had a number of netball posts in the schoolyard that seemed to be well used and enjoyed by the pupils, from the children's calls we could hear when we opened a window!
Both Raymond and Dong, shown in the photo on the right, would probably have played basket ball sometime during their school days, and maybe even 'ping-pong'! Ping-Pong aka Table Tennis tables are often seen on the pavements in towns in China, perhaps that is where the people develop their talent for the game, and gain such good results in competitions! Dong had travelled up from Shengzen city to spend some time with us during our visit, so there was much to talk about during our lunch which we had at a restaurant located near the Baiyun Hotel. To get to the restaurant, we had to use an overpass to cross a busy road. On the lower steps of the overpass, away from the hotel, two 'hawkers' had open cases laid on the steps, from which they were selling CDs. Whether they were of music or films is unknown.
