Visit Guangzhou And Have Dinner With Three Car Drivers And Families.
As soon as we had arrived in Guangzhou, Michael had telephoned Qin who had arranged for us to have dinner in one of the Guangzhou restaurants. It was an opportunity of meeting again, car drivers who had once worked in Beijing, and whilst they were there, drove us to many different places, whenever they had some free time. First there was Qin who was the first car driver from Quangzhou, then came Zhou, and finally was car driver Wu, so I now call them, 'my car drivers!'. Qin, his wife and young son, were already at the restaurant when we arrived. Later came Zhou, his wife and their first baby, then later still arrived Wu, so it was the first time that we had been with all the three drivers together. A very happy occasion!
Qin's son was three years old and seemed to remember me from a previous visit in 2007. I was told that he calls me, 'UK Grandpa', but in Chinese of course. Even now he is learning some English, and recited the English alphabet very distinctly. When we all clapped our hands in admiration he had a big smile on his face. In the picture Michael is showing him the use of his camera. A few days later when Michael and I had returned to Beijing, he was getting text connections on his mobile phone that had been sent from Qin's mobile. It transpired that these blank messages had been sent by Qin's son !!!!!
Baby Chinese Boy In Quangzhou Restaurant With Happy Chinese Parents.
Zhou and his wife were undoubtedly very happy with their young son, now 6 months old. Their baby boy was certainly very attentive and quick to smile, but I dont know what he might have thought about meeting a strange foreigner for the first time. When I first met Qin's boy for the first time, he was aged two, so it is unlikely that my meeting with Zhou's son would have made any impression on the memory of baby son at the tender age of 6 months! We shall have to see what happens on our next meeting.
Whilst Zhou was seated and holding his son on his knee, I put out my hand towards him, and without hesitation he grabbed hold of my finger, although perhaps he was more interested in my wrist-watch.
